The retina refers to the innermost layer of the eye and is composed of different cells such as photoreceptors that allows the brain to perceive image. Our retina specialists are focused on the diseases and conditions that affects this layer, but also the structures adjacent to it such as the vitreous. Conditions that are commonly treated and researched at the VRC within this subspecialty are aged-related macular degeneration (ARMD), diabetic retinopathy and endophthalmitis.
